Fun Wedding Vows

Traditional weddings can be updated to be more fun, making the audience laugh more and cry less, and poetic vows can make ceremonies still seem formal even if the words are not traditional. The copyright is to give our family credit for writing and testing these new, poetic vows in Angel and Cesar’s Wedding of the Year. Other couples may borrow from, use, or customize these vows for free.

Original opening drafted 2024:

Official:

You’re done searching, done wondering,

Who U would bring, to your wedding.

He asked U out, U had your doubts,

U worked it out, even found a house.

U took some time, to shop around.

Then said let’s stop, and settle down.

U said we’ve got to tie the knot.

And ready or not, it’s time we do that.

So here we are, from near and far,

To do our part, to help you start,

This fancy wedding, right at the beach.

With a happy ending, just like they teach.

Original vows drafted 2024 that the couple could say together:

Official:

Following each line that I read, please exchange these vows together.

Couple:

I promise to, be honest to,

And nice to U, and true to U.

When I might cry, U make me laugh.

U will always be, my better half.

In perfect health, with first-class wealth,

Or pretty healthy, and fairly wealthy.

To have and to hold, ‘til we get too old.

I give U my heart, ‘til we fall apart.

While others may, suggest divorce,

We’ll find a way, to stay the course.

And give many smiles, to any child,

Even if we did, have fifteen kids.

Bride:

(That count includes, some grandkids too.)

Couple:

Today’s top news is: that I choose U,

And what is true is: I luv U, I do.

Background:

Paul remembered that the traditional vows he and Cheryl exchanged in 1995 at the Towson, MD county courthouse seemed already out of date 30 years ago. He wrote the initial draft wedding ceremony soon after Cesar and Angel were engaged in April 2024, with some revisions from Angel. The first version required the couple to repeat the same words at the same time which was not very practical or elegant, especially if the bride and groom each prefer different vows. The June 2025 version includes vows revised by Cesar and Angel plus a music playlist selected mostly by Cesar. Their official was Cesar’s Mom Jessica who did a great job of conducting the ceremony with no rehearsal only 2 days after first seeing the draft plans.

Everyone at their June 9, 2025 wedding on the beach at Jupiter, FL had a great time.
